Gregg Does

Gregg Medlyn

When asked what he does, Gregg will typically respond with “I am a Marriage & Family Therapist.”  He specializes in working with couples and families who are going through difficult times and want to strengthen their family and improve the quality of their relationships.  He also works with individuals who are dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, separation, divorce, relationship issues, midlife & aging issues, self-esteem issues, career issues, and stress management.

Gregg is a Solution Focused Therapist and believes people come to therapy to find a solution for their problems and they don’t want to spend a lot of time figuring out how they got here or playing the “blame game.” His first question in therapy is “what is your hope for coming to see me?”  This gives Gregg and the client a look at what they need to accomplish and where they are going in therapy.

In addition, Gregg has BS in Business Administration and a MBA.  Early in his career he worked for a few major organizations and started several businesses (he started his first company when he was 14 and sold it when he was 21!).  Many clients have found this side of Gregg very helpful when dealing with financial and money issues in their marriages, career issues/choices, or starting/running/managing their own company.

What do all those letters and titles behind his name mean?

LMFT or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist means Gregg has a master’s degree (MS) in Marriage and Family Therapy from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).  This degree specializes in Marriage and Family Therapy and involves the application of family systems theories and techniques to facilitate adjustment and development throughout life.  He has also passed the national licensing examination through the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB).  As a LMFT, Gregg is required to complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy.  In other words, Gregg is a specialist in Marriage and Family Therapy.

LPC or Licensed Professional Counselor is a mental health professional who provides professional therapeutic services to individuals and groups that involve the application of mental health, psychotherapeutic, and human development principles to facilitate adjustment and development throughout life. Gregg has also passed the national licensing examination through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).  As a LPC, he is required to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years.

As a pastoral counselor, Gregg may use both psychological and theological resources if the client is wanting both of these perspectives.
